Toluna Synthetic Personas can do more than generate answers.

They can reflect a broad range of human emotions and intelligence. In a previous blog post, we explored how our Personas react emotionally in surveys and detect emotion resonance in ads.

Now, we’re turning to another commonly echoed question: can Personas reflect cultural differences?

The answer is yes.

Toluna Synthetic Personas have over 250 predicted profile characteristics, as well as a rich backstory containing life events and cultural context. Cultural background is embedded in the way Personas are built, shaping how they interpret the world around them and, ultimately, respond.

One example of this is shown in the word cloud below, which highlights the words and phrases associated with the life story theme “Community” for samples of Toluna Synthetic Personas in Brazil and the United Kingdom.

The results show that family is an important part of community culture in Brazil, whereas in the UK, there is a split between tradition and values of diversity and inclusion. These differences illustrate that cultural context is built into Toluna Synthetic Personas, enabling them to express a range of lifelike opinions.

Toluna Synthetic Personas aren’t limited to broad country-level distinctions. Their profiles also take into account regional cultural differences within countries, capturing nuances at a more granular level.

These built-in cultural attributes do more than enrich Persona profiles. They influence the survey responses Personas generate, helping researchers uncover insights that are more reflective of the real-world differences that shape consumer attitudes and behavior.
