Wilton, CT – Oct. 5, 2021 – Toluna, the leading consumer insights provider and parent company of Harris Interactive and KuRunData, today announced it has received the Mahatma Award 2021 for its contributions, supporting the market research industry during the Covid-19 Pandemic in India. Inspired by the spirit of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the Mahatma Award honors social impact leaders and change-makers across the globe that work towards making an impact and leading the way to a sustainable future.

Honorees were selected based on the empathy and sensitivity displayed by their humanitarian efforts during these unprecedented times rather than the scale or significance. The award recognizes Toluna’s work to establish a vaccination camp in India to support the market research community during the height of the pandemic in the region. Working in concert with Toluna’s corporate office and the Market Research Society of India (MRSI), the local Toluna team designed an initiative to organize and sponsor the cost of a COVID-19 vaccination camp. The MRSI and Toluna collaborated on communications, inviting the entire research community in India to the camp. The drive received an encouraging response from the industry, and the team was also able to donate four concentrators to the Haryana CSR Trust under the Corporate Social Responsibility program.

“When the COVID-19 pandemic reached India, our management team felt we needed to do whatever we could to support our staff members, their families, and the industry we are part of,” said the Toluna India leadership team. “We believe that helping people get vaccinated is key, so this idea of organizing a vaccination camp was a natural way to provide support. Our Toluna team offers its thanks to the Market Research Society of India and our friends in the industry for the collaboration and guidance in organizing this camp. This effort provides further proof of the idea that we are stronger when working together.”

“Our Toluna team is extremely proud to receive this honor,” said Toluna Founder and CEO, Frederic-Charles Petit. “However, we are even more proud of the efforts made by our team to positively impact their local community. It is this global humanitarian spirit that makes Toluna a special place to work.”

Since its inception, the Mahatma Award continues to honor the most accomplished sustainable and responsible social efforts and initiatives within the private, public, and development sectors. The initiatives range from sustainability to philanthropy to shared value to social impact to corporate social responsibility. To date, the awards have recognized more than 325 change-making organizations and impact leaders across various categories and sectors, including Google Ad Grants, IBM Foundation, Twitter for Good, Microsoft Philanthropy, Capgemini, Save the Children, Feeding America, and more.

The Mahatma Award is founded and instituted by Social Entrepreneur and Philanthropist Mr. Amit Sachdeva, known as ‘The CSR Man of India.’ A stout Gandhian who echoes the principles of Mahatma Gandhi, Sachdeva is an expert in the subject matter of corporate sustainability and social responsibility. He played a pivotal role in lobbying for the CSR Bill, 2013 and continues to invest in various NGOs and NPOs across the world.

The award ceremony took place in Delhi on October 1, 2021, at India International Centre. For more information please visit: https://www.mahatmaaward.com/.
